Academic & Business Writing Week 3 - Optional Assignment

Some people believe that people in technical fields don't need to work on writing or reading much. Other people believe that studying the humanities is a waste of time. Still others believe that we should all learn outside our comfort zones: English majors should learn some computer coding skills, and engineers should read Shakespeare. What is your opinion?

I feel that to hinder yourself by not exploring outside your comfort zone and/or your field of expertise you are limiting yourself from personal growth. The ability to grow in skill is not entirely dependent on learning the next step in the series of tasks ahead of you. The ability and flexibility to thrive comes from opening yourself to the unexplored and unknown. Will reading Hamlet help you with the road block you have found yourself upon whilst amidst a major engineering design? Probably not, but it will lend credit to the ability to have a broader scope of the world and the elements within that can easily contribute to a thought process that will push you to think harder, further and more openly.
